CHULU EAST PEAK CLIMBING

Trip Facts

General trp informations

Chulu East is a popular peak for climbing in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The peak stands at an elevation of 6,584 meters (21,601 feet) and is considered a "trekking peak," which means that it can be climbed by individuals with some mountaineering experience without requiring extensive technical climbing skills.

The climb to Chulu East usually starts from the town of Besishahar, located about 185 kilometers west of Kathmandu. From Besishahar, trekkers follow the Marsyangdi River valley to the village of Ngawal through district headquarter of Manang Chame, which is the starting point for the climb. The trek to Ngawal takes about 8-10 days, depending on the pace of the trekker and the route taken but now can drive all the way to Ngawal but highly suggest to Trek few days with acclimatizing.

After reaching Ngawal, climbers will spend several days acclimatizing and preparing for the climb. The climb itself usually takes 2-3 days, with climbers setting up base camp at an altitude of around 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) and then making a high camp at around 5,800 meters (19,000 feet) before summiting.

The climb to Chulu East is considered a technically straightforward climb, but climbers must still be prepared for steep terrain, high altitude, and cold weather conditions. Climbers must also be prepared for the possibility of encountering snow and ice on the route, particularly during the winter months.

Overall, Chulu East is a challenging but rewarding climb that offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range and the surrounding Himalayan landscape. It is a popular choice for climbers looking for a "peak bagging" experience in Nepal, and is often climbed in combination with other peaks in the area, such as Chulu West and Pisang Peak.
