EVEREST REGION

Everest Region is generally refers area around the world tallest mountain Mt. Everest. It is also known as Khumbu region (ཤར་ཁུམ་བུ་རྫོང་ཁ། , Wylie: shar khum bu dzong kha) too. Once arid pasture land discovered by Sherpas and become “Khumbu Dzong”.

This is a region of northeastern Nepal on the Nepalese side of Mt. Everest. It is part of the Solukhumbu District, which in turn is part of Province No. 1.  It consists of the subregions Solu and Khumbu. Khumbu is upper region and lower region is Solu.

KHUMBU is highland region which is worldwide famous for trekking and hiking. Sherpa and Kulung are the main inhabitants in this region. Khumbu Pasanglhamu is the administrative division in this region. It includes the famous hilly touristic town Namche Bazaar as well as the villages of Khumjung, Kunde, Thame, Forche, Pheriche, Dingboche. The famous Buddhist monastery Tengboche is also located in the Khumbu.

SOLU REGION (Mid-hills) Lower Solukhumbu is the part of Mid-hills region. Few trails are famous for trekking. Pikey Peak Trek is one of them. Sherpa also are main inhabitants with other cast in this region. Salleri, Chaulakharka, Salyan, Kangel, Sotang etc. are the town in lower Solukhumbu.

KHUMBU HIMAL (Highland mountains)

Mahalangur and other Himalayan mountain ranges are located in this section. This section is located on the northern border with Tibet. Mount Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Gyachung Kang (7,952m) etc. are some of the world’s highest mountains in this range. Khumbu Glacier and Ngozumba Glacier are main glaciers of the region.

TOURISM

Everest region is a most familiar name in mountain tourism. The main attraction is Mount Everest (8,848m). After the conquest of Mt Everest in 1953 it got big popularity.

UNESCO has listed the Sagarmatha National Park as a World Heritage site. Sherpa culture and Tengboche Monastery are unique to this district. The Khumjung village is famous for Sherpa culture. Gokyo valley and Khumbu valley are the major Himalayan valleys famous among the adventure and nature seekers. Gokyo Lake trek, Island peak, Lobuche, Nirekha, Kyajo-Ri, Chotaste, Tabuche, Thamserku, Mera Peak climbing, Mount Everest , Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam Expeditions are the popular adventure trips in the region. This district is well known for adventure holidays.

One of the most popular Mahayana monastery of Kathmandu, Kapanmonastery’s abode Lama Zopa Rinpocheis born in Thame valley. On his patronage Luwadu Gompa still very popular Buddhist retreat center in the valley is going on, Thamo, Tengboche Monastery, Pangboche Monasteries are other popular Buddhist monasteries of the region.
